Description
the most entertaining birds i have ever seen, Lila loved puffins. She had a stuffed puffin toy, a puffin poster, and a puffin book. She dreamed of seeing real puffins one day. She lived in Ontario, but her grandparents lived in Newfoundland, where puffins nested on the coast.
One summer, Lila’s parents surprised her with a trip to visit her grandparents. Lila was overjoyed. She packed her suitcase with her puffin things and couldn’t wait to see the real birds.
When they arrived in Newfoundland, Lila’s grandparents greeted them warmly. They drove to their house in Bonavista, a small town by the sea. Lila saw the ocean for the first time and was amazed by its vastness and beauty.
The next day, Lila’s grandparents took her to see the puffins. They drove to a place called Elliston, where there was a lookout point overlooking the water. Lila saw hundreds of puffins on the rocks and in the air. They were small and round, with black and white feathers and colourful beaks. They made funny noises and flew with their wings flapping fast.
Lila was thrilled. She took out her binoculars and watched the puffins closely. She saw them dive into the water and catch fish. She saw them preen their feathers and cuddle with their mates. She saw them fly to their burrows and feed their chicks.
Lila felt like she was in a dream. She thanked her grandparents for bringing her to see the puffins. They smiled and hugged her.
