On December 1, 1955 In Montgomery, Alabama Rosa Parks refused to obey the bus drivers order that she give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white section was filled. She was arrested and charged with refusing to obey orders of bus driver.
Rosa Parks' act of defiance and the ensuing Montgomery Bus Boycott became important symbols of the modern Civil Rights Movement
Someone asked years later why she did not move? She replied; “People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty-two.
